Hungry, Hungry Hippos

Last weekend we bought Marin the game Hungry, Hungry Hippos. It was an instant hit at our house and here are all the things I have learned since.

Right after the hippos eat they poop the marbles right back out.

The hippos like to watch TV with Marin and sleep with her.

When the game is put back in the box the hippos are napping or sleeping.

When Marin is awake the hippos must be out even if not being played with.

Marin is also currently wanting to know tha names of every animal in a book, every person that walks past the house, and every person in a check out line at the store. We often hear from Marin's lips....."name, name?" Ed and I have made up many peoples names over the last month. I know you are wondering from my rant what this has to do with the hippos. Well the best part about the hippos are they each came with a name. The green hippo is Homer, the pink hippo is Happy, and the orange and yellow hippos are Henry and Harry (at the moment I am not sure which is which, but if you ask Marin she could tell you.) Her favorite is Happy because pink is her favorite color.

I hope you enjoyed the hippo tales.

One final hippo story, my parents had dinner at our house on Friday and Marin was talking about the hippos.

Me: Marin, can you tell Gram and Pa the hippos' names?
Marin: Busy and does not answer.
Me: Marin, can you tell Gram and Pa their names?
Marin: Anne and Dick

I know that a two year old does not know how to be sarcastic, but her answer makes me think sarcasm is to come as she gets older.

Rode Rage at Almost Two

Last Wednesday, Marin spent the day with her cousins and we hit a lot of traffic on the way. All of a sudden I hear from the back seat.........

Marin: Get out of the way.
Me: What should get out of the way?
Marin: The cars.

She also has learned that when the lights at and intersection are red we should stop, but once they turn green she tells us to "go, fast."

I am not so sure we will be wanting her to get her drivers license in 14 years.

Her positive driving habit might be that she does not like talking going on in the car all the time.

Ed and I were dropping her off at my mom's house one morning and she kept saying no, no.

I asked her what she was saying "no to."

She then told us "no talking." This has happened several times since, but it is now "no talking please."

The Heartbeat

Well today Marin, Ed, and I all went to the doctor for our first appointment for Lucky. Everything is going well and Marin was very excited to have Lucky finally talk to her. Yes, Lucky is talking already.......via his/her heartbeat. Marin thought it was very cool and makes her very own heartbeat sounds to imitate Lucky. I think the whole experience was very positive for her and she loved that she got to get stickers.

On the walk back to the car (my doctor's office is in downtown Minneapolis), we walked by Target. It is a two story Target and has an escalator for the carts to go up and down between floors. We watched this for a while (I think Marin would have stayed for hours). She also enjoyed going through the revolving doors by herself.

When I asked her what the best part of Lucky's doctor appointment was, she told me the carts at Target. You have to love what kids appreciate.

Swimming Lessons Have Begun

Marin is back in swimming lessons and loving it. This is her favorite part, running across the platform and jumping into the water to her daddy.

Scoopers and Kickers!

Drama Queen

This picture is not one of the moments.

It is official Marin has turned in to a drama queen (or maybe a two year old) and she even told me it was true! She told me "Yes, dama keen." She has turned an ear when it comes to listening to anything she does not want to hear and will pretend to cry or make pathetic faces if she does not like something, but she is able to turn it off in a second.

A Boyfriend Already

Yesterday afternoon, Marin had Taylor over to watch her for about an hour. When Taylor was about to leave we were talking about homecoming and her boyfriend.

Marin: DJ (this is Taylor's boyfriend)
Me: Marin, do you have a boyfriend?
Marin: Yes
Me: Who is your boyfriend?
Marin: Daddy (with a big smile)

I guess I have to approve and I believe my daughter has pretty good taste in men. But I do hope when she gets way older she picks a different boy to be her boyfriend. I told Ed when he got home from work and Marin made his day.

Marin also had her last run through the hose yesterday. She ran around in her diaper as I sprayed her and I think she would have done it for hours if I would have let her. I decided I needed to call it quits before she turned blue. The hose came out because she was covered in chalk and bubbles.
